| Drive US Highway 93 to Sheep Creek. Motorcycle across steppe to mouth of unnamed canyon- my name 'Iron Run Canyon' because of exposure of iron ore higher up. Park near earthquake fault scarp, here 3' to 4' high, offset and well defined. Up rubbly canyon to avalanche catchment snowfield; with its suncups, looked like a mini glacier. Ascend ridge NE to main crest, then north along third class ledge/gully/face system to Gooseberry Peak el 11090'. The cairn built by Tom & Dana Lopez was found intact. Left register. High on connecting ridge found a crinoid fossil in shale. A crinoid or sea lilly was a shallow warm sea coral from the Mississippian Period 330 million years ago.

Approaching the main crest south of Gooseberry Peak's summit. View NW
to McGowan Peak. Mindful foot and hand placement is advised on this
loose sedimentary rock. Photo date 6/23/93.
