Rock Spring Peak

Rock Spring Peak (9,854)

View SE from the east ridge of Grouse Creek Mountain looking across Rock Spring Canyon to limestone Rock Spring Peak el 9854'. This is a good view of the peak's 954' prominence and its near detachment from the Pahsimeroi Mountains.

A better example of a detached peak would be Hawley Mountain el 9752', seen left on the horizon, with its approx. 2800' prominence.

In front of the camera is a krummholz whitebark pine. The brown needles attest to the harsh realities of life in a desert alpine zone. Photo date 5/30/07.

On 6/1/99 the summit of Rock Spring Peak was found to be pristine and showed no evidence of prior visitation. The peak's southeast ridge is forested with old growth Douglas fir and whitebark pine. The tenacity and great age of these trees is inspiring, if not spiritual.
